Community involvement

The Ballina bypass studies include community and stakeholder involvement, to ascertain the values, issues and concerns of the community.

The objectives of the community involvement processes are to:

  • Create stakeholder and community awareness of the study and the need for the upgrade.
  • Understand stakeholder and community issues, values and concerns related to the project.
  • Create stakeholder and community awareness of the Ballina bypass concept design and environmental assessment.
  • Incorporate stakeholder and community issues into the investigation.
  • Assist stakeholders and the community to understand the results of the study and to understand the next steps.

The following activities provide opportunities for the community to become involved in the study:

  • A project information line has been established so that members of the community can speak with a member of the project team during business hours. If the phone is unattended, please leave a message. Phone 1800 209 484 (free call).
  • Community updates are released at various stages of the project to provide information about project developments.
  • Advertising in the local area keeps the community informed throughout the project.
  • Advertisements, updates and other public information can be found at the Public information section of this website.

Displays

  • A staffed display was held in Ballina on 13 May 2006 to provide information about the implementation stategy for the Ballina Bypass, the initial works and the EIS concept design which was approved in 2003.
  • A community display was held from Tuesday 19 June until Friday 20 July 2007 to provide information on the improved concept design.
