The initial works for the Ballina bypass consisted of ground improvements
to accelerate initial settlement and minimise future settlement
of the highway. These works consisted of constructing earth mounds
in areas of soft soils to speed up the rate of settlement.
Two soft soil locations were identified, one near Teven Road and the second at the southern approach to the northern crossing of Emigrant Creek. These two sites are the location of the future bridge approaches and the ground conditions at these locations is expected to have significant settlement.
More information on the initial works can be found on the Public information section of this website.
